Attodah is a relatively young planet, with a thick atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen with a relatively high amount of noble gasses. Land surface life is limitted to fungoid and plantlike structures (nothing that would resemble terran trees) and insects resembling ants and beetles. There are extensive icecaps on both poles which largely persist year-round.

There are numerous disconnected “seas” each with its own form of Chíshu (such as Chip) and other, related species. Some of these are close enough to be crossed overland by these creatures, and some are not. The idea of digging canals has never occurred to them.
